I want to apologize from now for not spreading the word more since I've been away with exams.

BUT since the deadline has been extended, LISTEN UP PEOPLE!


Is hosting this brilliant self portrait contest with great prizes!

These are the rules and the theme of the contest:


contest time has come 'round again. this time we are going to have some real fun. there is way more than enough serious art out there. i am guilty of making more than my share of it. but it's time to let the hair down and really enjoy ourselves. here's your 'assignment.'


watch this video [link] it has a bunch of celebs in it (bob ritchie aka kid rock, wayne gretzky, chuck liddell, the motor city madman aka ted nugent, dale earnhardt, jr., gene simmons, the guys from orange county choppers, one of the guys from zz top, nelly furtado, grant hill, a bunch of playboy bunnies, and who can miss eliza dushku) it and it's funny as hell
ROCKSTAR

after you watch the video, take a photo if yourself somehow inspired by the song. have fun with it. do your best rock n' roll pose or whatever makes you happy. i am not hard and fast to the whole 'self-portrait' format, but i think it will definitely earn you bonus points. you'll also win bonus point for big smiles and crazy rock n' roll hair (not 80's hair band hair, but something with a little less aerosol)



THE JUDGES:




alex is the shit. not much else to say. she's like my best friend. in real life and on dA too. she's been with me since the beginning of my photography trip. hell, she was one of the first watchers on my first account. i love her. strictly platonic of course, but damn. she is one of the biggest rockstars i have ever met. a bad mofo without a doubt




jerry is one of my best friends, he's the one who introduced me to the world of photography and to deviantART as well. he's a real rockstar too. not really, but he's a total badass. he's a doctor. and a dashing special agent. with a PhD in kicking your ass





simmy won my last contest. she's half british and half maltese. she lives in malta and takes amazing photos. whenever i am homesick for my adopted homeland i go to her gallery and i can almost smell the sea. yeah, simmy is a total rockstar.





magda is a friend who's been around almost from the very beginning of my photography days. she is from krakow, poland and she is a bad mofo too. she has been away from dA for quite a few months but has recently returned. that made me so happy so i just had to have her judge this contest.







jules is relatively new to my friends list. she thinks her photos aren't good enough to be part of the contest. i argued with her because i think they are, but ultimately she volunteered to 'help with the contest in any way she could' so i asked her to be a judge. she agreed. she lives in the philippines. the same place where my poor, transient parents live so that's pretty cool. and despite her opinion her photos are brilliant.




THE RULES:

only photos posted on or after midnight GMT on 04.20.08 will be accepted

i prefer self-portrait, but again portraits of other people will do

the medium is photography. though i respect other media, i work almost exclusively in photography and that's what i am looking for. photomanips will be accepted too.

there is no limit on the number of entries you can make. i know this might get a little daunting if people decide to enter like fifty shots so i reserve the right to limit entries at a later date, but for now you can enter as many times as you'd like

when posting the deviation please link to the contest and give permission for me to feature your art in my journal as that is how i will be publicizing entries.

finally, and most importantly, HAVE FUN. this contest is about kicking ass and being a total rock star. there is plenty of serious photography out there. i want this contest to be something else. i want to see smiles and crazy rock n' roll hair.





PRIZES:

first prize is personally engraved 2gb iPod shuffle in the winner's choice of color and a $50(US) iTunes gift card. in addition the winner will be able to choose their 3 most favorite prints from my gallery.

second prize is a $50(US) iTtunes gift card. and 2 prints from my gallery.

third prize is a one-year subscription to dA and 1 print.
